Winstar Road Supply FAQs

Winstar Digital Radar Speed Signs

Our radar speed signs provide real-time feedback to drivers, encouraging them to reduce speed and adhere to speed limits, ultimately promoting safer road behaviors and communities. Our studies have shown speed reductions ranging from 15% to 25%, with an impressive up to 85% of speeders slowing down. Our affordable radar speed sign's pricing make them an effective alternative to speed humps, which can impede emergency vehicles, impact cyclists, cause noise pollution, along with other negative aspects.

Winstar Road Supply offers a variety of models and types of radar speed signs A/C wired or Battery & Solar powered, mobile and stationary, in a wide range of sign colors and display sizes. We also offer many customization options.

Each model has various options such as continuous operation 24/7-365 or at specific times. Our smart connectivity allows users to evaluate the vehicle data collected to make smarter decisions as to which option is best for your use case. For example, a community may have different issues with speeding as compared to a church or school.

Yes, our Battery & Solar powered models can be moved to another location. The unit is lightweight and with the universal mount it can easily be moved and installed on another sign pole.

We include with each Battery Operated w/ Solar model, our 14-21+ Day Backup High Capacity Battery and 80-120 watt solar panel with solar panel mounting bracket. Our LED displays are designed to reduce energy requirements and are optimized for energy efficient 24/7-365 operation.

To ensure maximum effectiveness, it's important to install your radar speed sign approximately 5ft-7ft above the ground directly facing traffic along a straight road without tree cover for the Battery Operated w/ Solar Panel model. We recommend referring to our detailed best practices guidelines for optimal placement and installation. These guidelines cover key considerations such as visibility, traffic patterns, and safety, helping you achieve the best results from your radar speed sign.

The cost of installing a radar speed sign can vary depending on the approach taken:

HOA Installation: If your neighborhood has volunteers willing to assist, installation costs could be minimal or even zero.

Public Works Involvement: In cases where local public works employees are engaged, expect to budget a few hundred dollars per sign for their assistance.

Contractor Installation: Opting to hire a contractor will generally result in higher installation costs due to labor fees and professional services rendered.

For municipalities purchasing radar speed signs, installation is typically managed by local public works employees, which can help reduce additional expenses.

Winstar Road Supply LLC guarantees that all models in our radar sign series are free from defects in materials and workmanship for a period of 2 years starting from the date of product receipt. This warranty ensures peace of mind regarding the quality and reliability of our radar speed signs.

Batteries provided with the Battery Operated w/ Solar Panel models have a 1 year warranty starting from the date of product receipt. Additional and replacement batteries are optional for purchase.

Radar Speed Sign Installation

Install the sign no more than 5 feet from the road curb. Greater distances may result in lower displayed speeds than the actual vehicle speed.

No. Always install on a straight section of road. Signs placed in or after a curve won’t give drivers enough time to adjust their speed and won’t detect vehicles accurately.

Position the sign perpendicular to the road, with the radar aimed directly at the curb in the direction of oncoming traffic—not toward the road center.

Do not install under trees, as foliage can block sunlight. The solar panel should face South at a 45° angle for optimal charging.

Install the sign on the same side as oncoming traffic. Mounting on the opposite side may impair vehicle detection due to radar angle limitations.

Mount the sign 7–10 feet off the ground. Installing below 7 feet reduces detection range. For areas with street parking, install the sign high enough to detect vehicles over parked cars.

Yes, but if installed higher than 12 feet, tilt it no more than 3°–4° downward. Tilting too much can shorten detection time and display inaccurate speeds.

HOA Roads & Traffic Calming

In most private developments and communities, the Homeowners Association (HOA) owns and maintains the roads, meaning the HOA sets speed limits and parking rules—provided they don’t conflict with local laws.

In most states, police can only enforce traffic laws on public roads. For private HOA roads, the HOA is responsible for setting and enforcing its own traffic rules—unless the HOA has a formal enforcement agreement with the local municipality.

Generally, no. If the roads are public and maintained by local government, only local authorities can enforce speed limits. HOAs in these cases must partner with local agencies to address traffic concerns.

Yes, but only under certain conditions. HOAs may fine members, tenants, or guests who violate community speed rules, as long as they follow state guidelines—typically requiring a 14-day notice and a hearing opportunity before issuing a fine.

Even without specific traffic provisions, most HOA documents include a Nuisance Clause that covers behaviors endangering residents. Speeding can fall under this clause, allowing the HOA to take appropriate action for community safety.

Yes. Systems provided by Winstar Road Supply can send automated warnings to speeding drivers. While they don’t impact a driver’s public record, they often serve as a strong deterrent—especially when paired with HOA-imposed fines.

Winstar Speed Enforcement & Monitoring Cameras

Winstar Speed Enforcement & Monitoring Cameras provide continuous speed enforcement in critical areas such as school zones, urban roads, and interstates, helping to reduce speeding, improve driver behavior, and promote overall community safety.

The system uses three-dimensional radar technology capable of detecting and tracking 100+ moving objects with highly accurate speed and lane recognition.

Each event is documented with high-resolution images and 24/7 high-definition video, even in low-light conditions. Cameras also include LED illumination that minimizes glare for drivers.

Yes. All data is protected through a secure chain of evidence, including digital signatures, data encryption, and system self-checks to ensure integrity.
